whatever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Phil 4:8

” Here’s a theory: the more secure we are, the less productive we become. The less risk and uncertainty we have in our lives, the more likely we are to amble along, getting by just fine but never really doing anything worth talking about.

Think about the sophomore album from bands that finally got their big record deal after years of struggling along. The first album is awesome; the second, mediocre.

Think about the reputations of professors at the last university you attended. If they were untenured (but on a tenure track), chance are they were more productive than tenured professors who had already obtained permanent job security.

You can probably think of other examples – bureaucrats, for example, who have safe but boring jobs.

Yes, there are exceptions to all of these. Some bands put out great sophomore albums, and some tenured professors become more prolific in their academic security. These exceptions, however, stand out because they are so unusual.

To simplify: complete security equals at least partial complacency.

I write this because we are living in uncertain times, at least financially speaking. Unless you have been living under the proverbial bridge, you’re probably aware that the U.S. economy hasn’t been performing as expected lately … ” – The Link Between Security and Complacency.

Thoughts Are Things

I’m not sure if you guys ever watched The Secret- I wrote about it some time ago.

Here’s some facts:

1. 300 Million People watched this movie.
2. The company who produced this movie made 340 Million Dollars in sales, making it one of the best sold DVDs of all time.
3. Many people become insanely successful after watching the movie. Some became millionaires, many were financially free and financially independent after watching and implementing ‘The Secret’ into their lives.

I’ve watched ‘The Secret’ more than 3 times. More importantly, I practice most of which is helpful and implemented it in my life. It started to turn my life around. I live most of my days with purpose-filled steps and witness the things I visualize unfold- ministry, job hunt, relationships… family. :)

This past week, Pastor Kong shared about Dr. Masaru Emoto’s research on water.

Essentially, positive words, prayer and thoughts create beautiful crystals in distilled water under microscopic speed camera. If you remember your secondary school science experiments, crystals only form in liquid with the presence of substance.

In the landmark experiment, Dr. Emoto spoke words of love and hate and compared the results:

love thank_you

“Love” and ” Thank you”

Heavy Metal music (left) and “You make me sick, I’ll kill you”

Amazing eh? One of the “wow” moments was to see the changes in the crystals found in a dam where someone previously committed suicide in:

Then Dr. Emoto (not a known believer) asked a group to offer prayers. This was the results:

Our thoughts determine our future. Notice the people who speaks most about illness are often sick; the people who speaks most about happy things are happy people. It’s a decision.

Bibilically, it’s all captured in John 15:7 “As a man thinks, so is he.”

I’m not an expert rehearsing positive thoughts into my head. But one thing I learn – that which I lack, I can borrow. Which explains why books and audio sermons/tapes are such a big part in my life. I put equal importance to reading as I would with mentorship and schedule time for both of them in any given week.

“And He (Jesus) said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.” Mark 4:24 (KJV)

Develop a critical mind, evaluate what you hear. See if what you read or listen to resonate with your values. Mediate on that which is pure, healthy and of good report – which is what this blog is all about.

Be intentional about it.

The New Age folks are doing it so well. I mean, we ought to be mad by the fact that these folks are prospering with God’s principles without giving Him copyright credits – less acknowledging Him, while we, as children of God, are fighting against ourselves silly on whether Christians should prosper for the good of all those around us.

Tsk.
